Connect your Device via the Internet or a VPN

Next, you need to make sure that your machine, plant or device can establish an Internet connection or a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection. This is a prerequisite for the machine data to be sent to the graphicx.io cloud.

So you need to check whether the control unit of your machine, the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) or, for example, the HMI (Human Machine Interface) is able to communicate via the Internet or via a VPN. If this is not the case initially, please contact the manufacturer of your machine or device, often additional modules are then offered that enable such a connection.

To connect your device to graphicx.io please follow these 3 steps:

  1. Select the type of connection, depending on what is desired and available: Use either a secure internet connection via TLS (Transport Layer Security) or a secure VPN connection. For the quickstart, we recommend using an Internet connection via TLS.
  2. For your device (or gateway etc.) to know where to send the data, a so-called endpoint must be specified. You will receive the endpoint itself as well as relevant client credentials for authentication on request by email (please write to credentials@nexocraft.de). In order for us to tell you the correct endpoint and your client credentials, we also need to know the industrial interface you want to use. MQTT and REST API (https/http2) are available. OPC-UA will be available soon.
  3. The third step is to set up authentication of your machine or device. This again depends on which industrial interface you want to use. Please apply the credentials we provided you in response to your request by email in the above step, and consult the respective article to implement/configure the authentication:

Next Step: Authenticate your MQTT Client to the MQTT Broker

Alternative: Authenticate your OAuth2 Client on the REST API
